True 3D Displays
Introduction
A true 3D display refers to a display in which the illusion of a non-flat solid object is presented. In this section of the notes, we will learn about the two primary current technologies of this sort:
- Autostereoscopic technologies: techniques that do not require that the viewer use any special viewing device.
- Stereo Pairs: techniques based on presenting two images – one for the left eye and one for the right – and which require that the user view the scene through a special viewing apparatus of some sort.
Our main interest in these notes is the latter, but we shall take a quick look at the former before proceeding with stereo pair display technology.
