Education     In 1996, I was admitted to University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), Department of Electronic Engineering and Information Sciences. Our department is numbered 6th in USTC. So, in our language, we are 9606ers.... In 2001, I went to the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Yes, it's Hong Kong, but no, not crowded, no skyscrapers, no excessive traffic... We are located near Shatin, N.T., on a beautiful hill. It's like Shangri-la.... Despite the name of the university, education in our department is solely conducted in English. In fact, English is easier for me, compared with Cantonese....     Computer & Programming     I started with BASIC when I was grade 2 in primary school. I was 8 year's old, the youngest in the class, and I had no idea about the English words LET, FOR, NEXT, PRINT..... Yes, it was 1986, and a microcomputer means a lot of money. During the one-month class, I only got to touch the keyboard for 30 minutes, with our teacher sitting beside me, staring at my hands, and reminding me to be gentle again and again. My father bought his first 286 when I was in middle school. I got to use it for 30 minutes everyday. Wow... Everyday! My father gave me my first 1.44M floppy disk. I thought it would be enough for my whole life, seriously! I used BASIC a lot. I still remember my first piece of code: to display the ASCII table. Yes, it was a for-loop. The next one is to display prime numbers. I even played some tricks to optimize it. I also used LOGO, True BASIC and Turbo BASIC. I cannot recall anything besides their names.... Oh, right, there's a turtle in LOGO.... I used Pascal when I was in high school. It was classic...., it WAS.... I learned the foundamentals of C in 1995, and I used it a lot when I was in college. I had my first computer in 1997. Not really MY computer, I only had 25% share..... I once wrote a book named "Website Construction Under Linux" (Linux网站建设技术指南). It was published by Mechanical Industry Publishing House of China. Now it's available for download from many places. Copyright?
