Biographical Sketch

Jong Cheol Jeong is a PhD candidate in Biomedical Engineering, University of Kansas. He received his MS in Computer Science from the Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science University of Kansas. MSE and BS in Computer Engineering from South Korea

He now is working in Bioinformatics Center at the University of Kansas as both a founder and senior developer of ST-Analyzer which is an intranet-based standalone GUI for analyzing simulation trajectories sponsored by NSF (ABI-1145987). The project is open for everyone who are interested in developing and testing the ST-Analyzer. The developer version of ST-Analyzer is freely available through https://github.com/stanalyzer.

He has been also working with Dr. Chen as a research assistant supported by NSF CAREER project for developing novel machine learning and data mining algorithms to accelerate knowledge discovery in life sciences and engineering fields in Bioinformatics and Computational Life Sciences Laboratory, ITTC.

Jong cheol's current research interests are predictions of gene ontology-based protein functions by using the features directly derived from amino acid sequence and novel machine learning algorithm.

In the past, his research interests have included analyzing oncogenes from the expression levels of microarray data and identifying protein-protein interface residues directly from amino acid sequences which are the typical examples of small sample and imbalanced problems in machine learning area respectively. He has contributed to the development of novel methods in feature selection and protein-protein binding site predictions. Dr. Chen and Jong Cheol have published papers at leading journals and conferences.

In 2010, Jong cheol worked as one of the major contributors to launch University of Kansas Proteomics Service (KUPS) providing high-quality interacting protein pairs (IPP) and non-interacting protein pairs (NIP).

Jong Cheol Jeong is married to Eunmi Kim. Eunmi and Jong Cheol have two sons, Jayden Geonu and Joshua Myeongu. Here are some photos from happy family memories.
