Local Gamma Iota chapter of Eta Kappa Nu at the University of KansasThe Gamma Iota chapter is becoming more active in student and academic affairs. One of our traditional activities is the sponsoring of a volleyball tournament each spring. The volleyball tournament is quite unique as it holds competitions between teams of students and teams of EECS professors. It is an excellent opportunity to meet with professors outside of the classroom and have fun at the end of the school year. HKN also administers the Harry Talley Excellence in Teaching Award, presented at a banquet honoring graduating seniors. One professor from the department is chosen from students in the EECS department as one who has been notably inspirational throughout the year. About three times a semester, HKN has special evenings known as TGIF's. The organization usually provides dinner to members and allows time for socializing and relaxation. Recently, we have also invited one professor to each TGIF to talk about their experience in both teaching and industry. We also participate with other organizations in the annual Engineering Expo. Held every spring, the Expo is the Open House for the School of Engineering. Anyone, including the general public, is welcome to attend for a day of design contests, demonstrations, and learning fun. More about Expo ... And, like most organizations, HKN has numerous fundraising and volunteer projects. One of our newest and most successful fundraisers is the collaboration of a resume book. This resume book includes HKN members only, and showcases some of the most outstanding students in computer engineering and electrical engineering. We organize and participate in a tutoring program for introductory EECS classes. Questions or Comments? hkn@eecs.ku.edu |
