Information Security I is an introduction to private communication in a public world.  The course will discuss basic techniques to protect the confidentiality of communications, how to authenticate message senders, methods to maintain the integrity of messages, and a few security applications.  Common public key and private key encryption systems will be covered.  Several security models will be discussed and the trade-offs among different models.  Current policies, issues, legislation, and security failures will be discussed.
